I purchased this 1938 Curtiss Aerocar in July of 2006 in White Cloud KS. I bought it from the 3rd owner Robert Breeze who had owned it since 1960. Bob Breeze traveled and worked with the rodeo under the name of "Wolf River Bob" he used this Aerocar as his transportation and home while on the road. The Aerocar was used like this into the late 1990's until Bob stop traveling with the Rodeo.
The original owner was Augustus Post who purchased the Aerocar for his Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles CA to take guests to Mexico, the state parks and on other weekend trips. At some point it was sold to Republic Van Lines in Santa Monica CA and that is where it was purchased by Wolf River Bob.
The 1938 Chevrolet truck was custom built in Los Angeles by Standard Carriage Works for the sole purpose of pulling the Aerocar. This truck was equipped with a revolutionary hitch called a fifth wheel which Glen Curtiss patented. The truck was then driven to Coral Gables FL to pick up the Curtiss Aerocar. The black and white pictures (below) came from Wolf River Bob and are of this actual truck and trailer.
The Aerocar is running and driving and remains an unrestored survivor. It is one of about 12 know and is one of the rarest and most spectacular travel trailers ever built.
